"Crescent"

Celebrated vibraphonist and Steps Ahead bandleader Mike Mainieri returns with a new double CD tribute to John Coltrane. Crescent is the title of this wonderful collection. On Crescent, Mainieri is joined by saxophonist Charlie Mariano and bassist Dieter Ilg. It is wonderful.

Crescent was one of Charlie Mariano's last recordings before his demise in 2009 and mostly every song was recorded on the first take. The variety of compositions on Crescent includes "Like Someone in Love," "Naima," "Bye Bye Blackbird" and "Giant Step." Crescent incorporates outstanding performances and first class musicians--this makes perfect tribute.
