Mike Mainieri/Marnix Busstra Quartet "Trinary Motion/Live in Europe" (Drumhead Magazine)

Together with Eric van der Westen and Pieter Bast, Mike Mainieri and Marnix Busstra release a new, live, double-disc set featuring 13 tracks. Busstra and Mainieri share a kindrid ambiance to their compositional styles. This release combines new tunes with live versions of those previously recorded and showcases Mainieri as a talented performer and improviser. Mainieri, who in the 50s and early '60s performed with legendary artists such as Buddy Rich, Billie Holliday, and Dizzy Gillespie, and who founded the legendary group Steps Ahead in the late '70s, has contributed to over 100 Gold and Platinum albums.
